Marbella Trade Fair 2010

Marbella Trade FairOver the years the Exhibition of Marbella or the Marbella Trade Fair (Feria de Muestras de Marbella) has emerged as a strategic tool for the promotion and market positioning of the participating companies, and thereby to the overall economic development of the region.

Organised by the Trade Fair and Congress (Palacio de Ferias y Congresos) of the Marbella Town Hall, Marbella Trade Fair has become a reference point for trade by accommodating various industries with a platform to augment their business in Marbella.

The 2010 Marbella Trade Fair, which is in its 29th edition, is scheduled between 4th to 7th November. In an economic environment as tough as the current, this new edition of the Marbella Exhibition aims to bring better opportunity for new companies that seek promotion and dissemination of their products and services.

However, this year to avoid excessive competition- the Marbella Trade Fair (Feria de Muestras) will only allow each sector to be represented by a maximum of two companies. As a result, it would help companies to meet their business objectives.

In the past years, this multisectoral Marbella Trade Fair has been a great success which is reflected in the outstanding participation of various economic sectors such as automotive, furniture, food, tourism, service sector, multiple machines, textile, cosmetics, computer, telecommunications, home appliances, construction, health and entertainment, among others.

Apart from business promotion and exhibition, the Marbella Trade Fair also holds business seminars where industry leaders meet to discuss all concerned issues.

At 3,000 square meters meet, business and commercial firms are most representative of the economic sectors that in recent years have been undergoing a constant change to improve their development and growth in a dynamic environment.

Interestingly, the event will share the stage with the gastronomic fair “de Picoteo” which this year introduced the second edition of visitors following the success achieved last year.

Nearly six years ago, early on Boxing Day morning, over 1,500 people were crammed into eight rust-coloured carriages pulled by Sri Lankan Railway Engine no 59. Engine 59 also known as Samudradevi – which ironically means Queen of the Seas!!!

The 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami destroyed two-thirds of Sri Lanka’s coastline, ravaged with waves going inland by as much as 5 kms, killing more than 30,000 people in one day.

Just after Samudradevi left Colombo, at 7.00 a.m., the earth had groaned in the Indian Ocean, somewhere off Sumatra. The India and Burma tectonic plates crashed and 1200 km of the plate boundary slipped, resulting in an earthquake that, at 9 on the Richter scale, was the fourth largest in the world since 1900. The quake’s power was so strong that the earth was momentarily shaken from its axis.

Within a few weeks, Sandro Morelli held a Birthday party in Marbella and Maurice Bolan organized an event, the result of which was that more than 100,000 euro’s was raised for the Disaster Relief Fund.

The Manacare Foundation from Spain took a team of volunteers from Spain and Gibraltar to help with the relief work.

After much reconnaissance work, it was decided to build something that would not only assist in the immediate Relief, but would be a pillar of Hope for many years to come. Sadly some of the volunteers could not see the long term vision and ceased, but others have replaced them over the past six years and those volunteers together with further financial donations, have been instrumental in providing what exists now.

The Hopes and Dreams Centre employs teachers, doctors, nurses, seamstresses, and soap and candle makers, in all 58 people. More than 800 children and adults benefit from the Centre and work further afield is now being undertaken in the refugee camps and in prisons.

The first stage of the Centre is finished. The second stage, which involves housing for the physically handicapped, and a training centre for housemaids, is mainly geared at helping young people with no homes or families to train for a profession. Many of these orphans have no education at all.

This is an excellent effort from the part of the Manacare Foundation to generate fund for the rehabilitation of Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka.
