The world renowned Calasparra rice is grown in the mountainous terrain of the provinces of Murcia in Spain. This short-grained rice has a slower maturing process compared to other rice varieties, and today it is found all over Spain and also shipped world-wide.

Its longer growing cycle produces kernels that are exceptionally dehydrated – ready to absorb even more of the tasty sauces and flavors of paella broth and other Mediterranean recipes.
•        Organic short grain rice, D.O. Calasparra

•        Very absorbent, good for sauces & broths

•        Retains shape, not sticky or creamy

•        No pesticides or herbicides used

•        1 kilo sack

This good quality Calasparra rice is the best ingredient for typical Spanish paella with unique flavor and aroma. They have been used for paellas for centuries — producing individual al dente grains, swollen with as much good broth as possible.

When you make paella, Calasparra rice is considered the best as other short-grained strain of rice are designed keeping in mind specific rice dishes. For example, Asian rice is meant to be sticky; Arborio is meant to become creamy when cooked; Basmati is light, aromatic and fragile; and long grain rice (such as Uncle Ben’s) is a completely different product with lower absorbency.

Furthermore, unlike the usual rice fields by the Mediterranean Sea, the Calasparra rice is typically grown in the mountains of the Spanish province of Murcia, with pure mountain water irrigation first engineered by the Moors over 1,000 years ago.

Both our Bomba and Calasparra rice grown in the D.O. Calasparra region are totally free of all pesticides, herbicides, etc. No chemicals of any kind are added during processing. Each bag of Calasparra rice is individually numbered at the farm.
