Bus Service on the Costa del Sol

One of the best ways to travel in and around Andalucia and Costa del Sol is the bus service. Although all major Costa del Sol cities are connected by train, travelling by bus is much cheaper and has its own charm.

Regular buses link all Costa del Sol towns as well as the inland Andalucia cities of Ronda, Granada, and Seville among others. Different private companies operate in Andalucia, while CTSA Portillo is the major regular passenger transport by road on the Costa del Sol.

All most all the major towns including Malaga, Marbella, Estepona, Benalmadena, Torremolinos, and Fuengirola are served by Portillo. You can easily get a bus to a number of destinations from the major bus terminals in the towns.

Apart from providing daily passenger bus service in nearly 60 bus routes, Portillo also offers services as school transport, transport to the workplace, coach hire and shuttle service to recreation parks, leisure points and shopping centres.

From Malaga-Renfe station, the C1 line is active in the western part of the Costa del Sol covering the entire coast between Malaga city and the Fuengirola. The second C2 local line runs to interior province.

There is also a smaller bus station on the Avenida de Muella Heredia just beside the port. You can easily catch an express bus either from the Malaga main station, located in the Paseo de los Tilos, beside the Renfe railway station, or the smaller one near the port.

Buses from Malaga Airport

If you are arriving at the Malaga Airport, the airport bus service is the best means of transportation to any part of Costa del Sol and to the entire Andalucia. The station is just at few yards from the way out of Terminal 3 just adjacent to the taxi rank. A good network of bus both private and public connects the airport with other Costa del Sol travel points.

At the airport bus station, you buy ticket on board but keep in mind to give change or low value notes to the driver. This makes easy for the operator to handover your ticket, avoiding unnecessary time waste searching for change.

There is a new direct bus service from the Malaga Airport to Marbella Bus Station without any stoppage with a journey time of approx 45 minutes. The bus runs through the coastal bypass high above Torremolinos and Benalmadena before leaving behind Fuengirola and taking the toll road to Marbella.

During winter there are fewer buses available from the airport to Marbella so you need to check your arrival and bus travel time. Make sure you are on your time to get a bus.
