John Bock exhibits ‘Nole’ at CAC Malaga


The acclaimed German artist, John Bock, is displaying a selection of films and video installations titled “Nole” in the Malaga Contemporary Art Centre until November 14th.

About John Bock

Born in Gribbohm in 1965, John Bock went on to study in Hamburg. He lives and works in Berlin. He has had solo exhibitions in a number of international institutions including MoMA, New York; Kkunstwerke, Berlin; Kunsthalle, Basel, Switzerland; Secession, Wien, Austria and the Institute of Contemporary Art in London.

The German multi-artist originally gained fame for his original, comical and grotesque performances, combining theatre, literature, video, installation and sculpture.

John Bock’s works, comprising film recordings of his performances and installations consisting of the remaining props, are represented in collections all over the world, such as Stedelijk in Amsterdam, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis and Museum Für Moderner Kunst in Frankfurt.

Bock’s work is notable for its performative and theatrical nature, where nothing is what it seems. He received the 2008 ARKEN Award, in recognition of his contribution to the development of contemporary art on the international scene as well as the experimental and innovative character of his works. In 2009 the prize went to Olafur Eliasson.

John Bock exhibition at CAC Malaga

The CAC Malaga, officially opened in 2003, is a cultural initiative of The City Council of Malaga. Its aim is the promotion and dissemination of 20th- and 21st-century visual art.

The Malaga Contemporary Art Centre is located in Calle Alemania.
