The Nerja Cave Festival

The Nerja Cave Festival 2011 is being held from today until the 16th of July.

Stretching for almost 5km, The Nerja Caves were re-discovered by five friends in 1959 and are one of Spain’s major tourist attractions. As the chambers act as a beautiful natural amphitheatre with fantastic sound, concerts are held often at the caves.

The Nerja Cave Festival Program:

During the Nerja Cave Festival week there will be performances by the dancer Rocío Molina, Israeli singer Noa, the Society of Aida Gomez and the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, accompanied by Mariola Cantarero.

12th July: The festival starts today with Rocío Molina (from Malaga) performing “Danzaora” a show of “flamenco puro” accompanied by the singer José Ángel Carmona and José Manuel Ramos “The Oruc” and Miguel Angel Ramos “El Rubio”.

13th July: Israeli singer, Noa, will be performing with guitarist Gil Dor and percussionist Zohar Fresco followed by the Solis String Quartet who will perform a repertoire of Neapolitan songs in the concert “Noapoles”.

14th and 15th of July: The Society of Aida Gomez will put on “Carmen”, an “original choreography with flamenco touches”.

16th July: The Nerja Cave Festival finishes with soprano Mariola Cantarero (from Granada) and Barcelona tenor José Bros accompanying the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, with the first half devoted to a repertoire of opera classics followed by popular zarzuela arias and duets.
