Asociacion COLEGA Malaga


Association COLLEAGUE or Asociacion COLEGA (in Spanish) is the association that works for equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the province of Malaga, promoting values of coexistence and respect for diversity, that contribute to the free development of individuals irrespective of their sexual orientation.

COLEGA which constitute an autonomous and independent body is a part of the Spanish Confederation of Associations of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. Asociaciones LGBT of Malaga was founded in 1995 with the name Colectivo de Lesbianas y Gays “CO.LE.GA”.

Compared to some other countries and conservative societies, homosexuality or the LGBT scene is well acceptable in Spain with no such discrimination in the present time. The COLEGA association is, in fact, a means of participation and social transformation in relation to sexual diversity.

Activities

The Association has its offices in Malaga, Torremolinos and Marbella offering space to people to share their experience, learn and take part in several socio-development programmes.

COLLEAGUE engages in various activities in educational, cultural and leisure activities, not only in cosmopolitan cities but also within small towns. They are a good opportunity to learn, have fun and meet other people.

Information Service

* It is a free service offering anonymous and confidential information in collaboration with the Delegation of Youth of Marbella Town Hall.

* It is designed to inform and advise on sexual orientation, gender identity, sexual health, HIV prevention, homophobia, discrimination, etc.

* It is aimed at gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and their parents and relatives and generally to anyone interested.

* The service has specialized staff for the various consultations and offer free counselling by appointment.

* Offers Legal Advice for marriage between same sex couples, adoption, filing complaints, etc.

Besides, it also conducts education programmes to promote values of respect for human rights and respect for diversity as a value of coexistence. Moreover, it promotes reflection on attitudes and behaviours that hinder the integration and personal development of many pupils because of their sexual orientation or lack of adjustment to gender expectations.
