Cost of Living in Marbella

I thought it would be interesting for others to see how much basic items cost in Marbella for the person living here. Forget about Puerto Banus, that’s different, prices are more expensive at that end of Marbella, I am talking about prices in central marbella, the supermarket where us “commoners” go to buy our food stuffs.

I have taken these prices from a well know supermarket called “Mercadona” in order to compare their in house brands with other well know Spanish brands. The internal brand for Mercadona is “Hacendado”.

Prices are in Euro cents at April 2009

Whole Milk – here are three different types
Puleva (well known spanish brand) 1 litre  –  €0.89
Covap (another well known spanish brand) 1 litre – €0.85
Hacendado (internal brand) 4 x 1 litre – €2.24 (or €0.54 per litre)

Margarine
Flora Margarine 250 gram tub  – €1.39
Ligeresa (well known spanish brand) 250 gram tub – €1.29
Hacendado (internal brand) 250 gram tub – €0.95

Plain White Sliced Bread
Bimbo (well known spanish brand) 450grams – €1.99
Proceli, white sliced bread, gluten free 310 grams – €3.30
Hacendado (internal brand) 16 slices, 450grams – €0.60

Cola
Pepsi 2 litre bottle – €1.19
Coca Cola 2 litre bottle – €1.36
Hacendado (internal brand) 2 litre bottle – €0.35

Cup of Coffe in a cafe
Well this is a fierce debate as to the averga cup of coffee. Some places charge €1 other charge €1.50 and other places €2.00. Therefore I would expect to pay €1.50 for a cup of coffee, any more than that I consider it expensive.
