Municipal initiatives to promote living in Marbella


The Town Hall, in its constant endeavour to make Marbella a world class city with all kinds of facilities and services, has been taking new steps under various proposals for the betterment of the municipality. Here is just a look at some recently highlighted public initiatives by the local administration.

Reforestation and removal of stumps

The delegation of Municipal Parks and Gardens has launched a plan for the removal of stumps of public roads throughout the municipality and the reforestation of Basins where possible. This is in order to improve environmental standards and landscape of the municipality.

Javier Garcia, the municipal representative, explained: “the goal is to prolong the proceedings in time and get to all points of the town, removing stumps and repopulate the Basins, where possible, to further maintain the sustainability and environmental standards that characterise Marbella”.

Renovation of seafront promenade

Realising the importance of promenade in tourism, the City is trying to make progress in the improvement of such areas. As seaside walkways usually attract numerous tourists for leisure time, the overall reconstruction and beautification certainly add up to the values.

Recently, the Town Hall has completed a comprehensive renovation of the promenade between the fishing port of La Bajadilla and the Hotel El Fuerte Miramar. The project that has had a budget of 930,000 euros covers an area of 460 meters long with an average width of 8 meters, undertook modernisation works in installing street furniture, public lighting, drinking water network etc.

Underground parking facility

The City Council has informed to start an underground parking project with an area of 90000 square metres that will serve as a connecting link between the area north and south of San Pedro. The proposed plan provides a recreational and leisure facilities, a bike lane and a large green area with native plants, among other facilities.

It has also been given a great walking area of modern design, which will have a shaded area and the large roundabout that will connect the central area of the park.

Legal advice for immigrants

Municipal delegation of Social Welfare, Marbella, has launched an online programme to offer legal advice targeting the ever increasing migrant population. In this way, users will have access to different immigrant care service offered by the City Council.

The Council has a team of lawyers, social workers, mediators and academicians, who offer portfolio of services to people who are registered as resident or residing in the town whether immigrants, EU citizens or employers interested in hiring foreigners. The sole objective of the initiative is to solve problems of legal uncertainty, regularization, social and labour integration and those that affect the marginalization and social exclusion.

Social welfare actions

A series of socio-occupational short-term training courses, organised by the Delegation of Social Welfare, aim to promote joint working and greater involvement of citizens, various government agencies and organisation in numerous socio-development programmes.

Besides, the Spanish Association Against Cancer, a non-government organisation working in collaboration with the local administration, has recently started a Palliative Care to fight against cancer in all forms.

Through such courses, it promotes joint working and active involvement of citizens, agencies and social organizations in the areas of municipality, aiming at addressing palliative care both at home and in the hospital setting.
