Alhambra Palace Guided Tour

Alhambra Palace of Granada (Alhambra de Granada) is one of the popular most travel destinations in Spain. The historic monument is, in fact, a palace as well as a fortress complex built by the Moorish rulers in southern Spain.

Although historic records cite its existence since 9th century, there is no reference of Alhambra Palace being the residence of kings until 13th century by the Nasrid dynasty.

The fortress is made of red sandstone and so the name Alhambra which in Arabic ‘qa’lat al-Hamra’ means Red Castle. The Alhambra Palace is located on top of the hill known as La Sabica, on the left bank of the river Darro, which overlooks Granada.

Since its initial construction, the original Alhambra fortress has undergone much changes and addition, especially during the Moorish emperors Yusuf I (1333-1353) and Mohammed V (1353-1391). Later various new structures were built by subsequent rulers, military garrisons, and Roman emperors, including Charles V.
