Islamic Spain is very much evident in the southern part of Spain, earlier Al-Andalus which also includes the Andalusia region. Historically various Moorish dynasties ruled this part of Spain between 711 and 1492.
The independent Muslim state al-Andalus roughly refers to the cities such as Malaga, Cadiz, Huelva, Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Almeria and Granada. During the time of Muslim occupation, the area had also included parts of Portugal, Southern France, and the Balearic Islands.
Islamic conquest and the prosperity of the region during 8th to 15th century were manifested with the patronisation of art and architecture. The remarkable skills of Muslim artisans are engraved in numerous Islamic structures, including mosques and palaces.
