The Poligono Gallery in Marbella invites all art lovers to a special exhibition titled “Desire Over The Taboo” depicting eroticism in contemporary art.

The exhibition will start from Friday, 17th September and will continue until 15th November (opening hours: from 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm).

Through the work of 32 established and emerging artists from China, Indonesia, Europe, Russia, Turkey and USA, the exhibition examines differing interpretations of eroticism in art, with an emphasis on the representation of the woman figure.

Eroticism or erotism (from the greek ἔρως, érôs: sensual love) is the use of sexually arousing or suggestive symbolism, settings, allusions, situations, etc., in art, literature, drama, or the like.

Through this exhibition at Marbella Poligono Gallery, you will observe how each artist, playing with their imagination and the power of suggestion;   have   explored   the   subject   with   very   different sensibilities.

For some of them, evoking an image, a memory or a sensorial reference is enough to awaken sexual desire, without the need of more crude or explicit representations of sexuality. For some others, the same scenes that some would find obscene are the very representation of their understanding of eroticism, and go beyond the established taboos.

The exhibition features paintings and photography to show how sexual morals vary depending on times and culture. Some representations judged obscene or transgressive in earlier times are now conceived as simply erotic.
