Jerez Horse Fair or Feria de Caballo


This wonderful Spanish spectacle of ‘Jerez Horse Fair’ or Feria de Caballo is celebrated every year in the second week of the month of May. The world famous sherry producing town Jerez de la Frontera plays host to this most prestigious equestrian event with numerous activities.

Jerez Horse Fair is one such important event in the entire Spain and European continent. A week-long colourful activity draws thousands of spectators from all over the world to witness the remarkable display of horsemanship and many local traditions and customs.

It brings the whole town to the festive mood with people of all ages walk ostentatiously on the streets, wearing fancy dresses and participating in many playful activities. Events like equestrian art, horse walk, polo, flamenco dance and music catch everyone’s attention.

Many Spaniards come down to the streets to witness an amazing firework which marks the start of the festival late in the evening. The Jerez horse fair, so, displays another characteristic art of the region after the popular sherry production.

One of the highlights of Jerez horse fair is the horse dance and horsemanship by the performers of the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, who will enchant the public with their magnificent taming of the Andalusian Horse.

2011 Jerez Horse Fair

The 2011 Jerez Horse Fair will take place from 8th of May to May 15th at the Gonzalo Hontoria Fairgrounds which is its customary venue. The park turns into a town within another town with illuminating lighting decoration all around.

There will also be numerous activities for children and you will watch people singing, laughing, dancing, sharing fun with all attendees no matter locals or foreign visitors.

All horsemen and horsewomen come to the ground with their typical Andalusian attire and traditional Spanish dress. The area of 52,000 square meters turns into a playground for all, while Spaniards just take pride in celebrating yet another traditional element of Spain’s impressive art, history and culture.
