THE COLLECTION

Through the works that integrate the collection of the Ralli Museum, we can see the variety of the contemporary artistic outlook of the Latin-American continent. On the one hand, artists that are nurtured by the foreign cultures to create a new language and new forms, and on the other hand, those who drastically reject them. Examples of authors who travelled and studied in Europe, absorbing the influence of the avant-garde movements of this continent, are Leopoldo Torres-Agüero or Luis Seoane.  Others, like Wilfredo Lam, Elmar Rojas or Ernesto Deira, even having knowledge of the art of the old continent, looked back towards their origins in order to search for their roots, their identity, their language.

The Ralli Museum collection is well-known for its works by surrealist artists; this movement was strongly acclaimed in the Latin-American continent. Major figures of this movement in the new continent form part of this collection, like Roberto Matta, Wilfredo Lam, Carlos Revilla, Luis Sifuentes, Rodolfo Opazo or Gerardo Chávez. Concerning the European works, this same movement occupies a significant place in the collection, with the presence of figures like Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí or Joan Miró.
