The bullring is not only famous for its weekend bullfights with a seating capacity of 9,500; the arena is an impressive structure with a great piece of architecture. These days, the Marbella bullring very often used for various concerts, theatrical performances and other festivals and events in the absence of regular bullfights.

Marbella Bullring History

Plaza de Toros of Marbella is regarded as one of the best bullrings in the entire Costa del Sol with a ring measuring 40 m diameter. Many professional matadors like El Cordobés, El Litro, Espartaco, F rancisco Camino and José Mari Manzanares have inscribed their name in the rightful place by fighting here at this grand site in front of packed spectators.

Although bullfighting is now considered cruel, it is still an important part of Spanish history and culture, and the famous Marbella Bullring is a testimony to the fact. Looking at the history of Spanish bullfighting, bullrings are very common in all major cities of Spain and the one in Marbella is quite recent compared to some other bullrings in Malaga.

Marbella bullring – Plaza de Toros – was opened to public in 1964 and since then it has been a major bullfighting venue in the Costa del Sol region of Southern Spain.  Just as any sports ground, the circular structure is surrounded by climbing seats with seating arrangements both on the sun (sol) and shade (sombra).

To many, the bullring gives an experience of a lifetime while to others this is all disturbing on the lights of animal cruelty. Every Sunday afternoon, you will get to see a large crowd cheering to witness the incident. Mostly tickets are sold in advance, while prices mostly depend on the popularity of Torero or Matadores (bullfighter) and also the occasion.

Beside the traditional bullfighting, the Marbella Bullring is a general tourist interest and it is open to public from 10am to 2pm with entry fee. Moreover, the ring remains occupied with many summer concerts and events that too attract tourists all year round.

Details of weekly events at the Marbella Bullring can be obtained at its ticket counter. You can easily get all details, as bullfighting events are widely published through local media and through posters.
