Paul Scotton of Paul Scotton Design

Paul ScottonOur Marbella People Interview today is with Paul Scotton of Paul Scotton Design. Paul has been living in Spain for over 4 years and runs his own Design Company after working as Head of Design at one of the biggest Real Estate companies on the coast, Andalucian Dream Homes.

How long have you lived in Spain and how long is your business established?

Paul Scotton: I have lived in Spain for almost 4 years. I was employed as Head of Design within a company but left 2 months ago and set up my own company.

Why did you choose Marbella?

Paul Scotton: I was in the UK and initially looking for a job anywhere along the coast of Southern Spain and a job for a graphic designer came up with the real estate company Andalucian Dream Homes. So the job basically decided the location, of which I am really glad about as it is a great place to live.

Tell us your greatest business or personal accomplishment?

Paul Scotton: I am not very good with heights, so my greatest personal accomplishments have been that I have skydived twice, bungee jumped and wingwalked… scary, but great fun!!!

Why would you recommend the Costa del Sol for business and Lifestyle?

Paul Scotton: I love the laidback lifestyle here, it suits my personality. It is also a great time to start a business in Southern Spain as the Spanish government are willing to give new businesses a decent grant to get started if they think the business is a good one, the whole process has to be done in Spanish though. So yes I would recommend anyone considering moving here and/or setting up a business to not think twice and just go for it. But plan ahead with lots of research… life here may not be for everyone.

If you could change one thing about Spain, what would it be?

Paul Scotton: Spanish drivers… they are a nightmare. They dont look or indicate and everyone else on the road are invisible to them.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Paul Scotton: Laidback, creative, hardworking.

What is your favourite Restaurant in Marbella?

Paul Scotton: I like the Portuguese restaurant Chimaras (think that is spelt right) near Marina Banus in Puerto Banus. You can eat as much as you want for a really cheap price. The food just keeps coming to your table until you cant eat no more. All the meat is imported fresh from Brazil.

What is the last film you saw at the Cinema or DVD?

Paul Scotton: I saw The Notebook on DVD.

What advice would you give to someone moving to Spain?

Paul Scotton: Learn a little basic Spanish and find try to find a job before you move here, there are plenty of online recruitment agencies with jobs in Spain for English people. I have seen too many people end up back in the UK due to lack of research and no job.

Name one other business you would recommend on the Costa del Sol and why?

Paul Scotton: If you are after an elite super car I would recommend … they can source any amazing super car you wish to own.
