Our marbella people interview today is with Steve Varney of Des Res Marbella.

So Steve, What do you do for a living?

I am one of those awful estate agent people, that’s all I wish to say on the subject.

What made you move to the Costa del Sol?

After visiting the area for many years and having friends here, the urge to move to the Costa del Sol just became to great to resist. We have had a house here for some time and It just got harder to go back to the UK.

I woke up one morning and said I’m not going back!
And I haven’t

Tell us your greatest business or personal accomplishment?

Business

It felt like an accomplishment when one day I realised that my business employed 25 people and given that most had partners and children that was an awful lot of mouths to feed, more of a responsibility I suppose but an accomplishment that we fed those mouths

Raising three children into fine adults as a single father.

Why would you recommend the Costa del Sol for business and Lifestyle?

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it!

I just like it here, if you like where you are you generally perform better at work and in business and altermately have a better lifestyle as a result

If you could change one thing about Spain, what would it be?

It does annoy me when I hear expats moaning about procedural and cultural differences in Spain, I don’t know why some of them bothered to come in the first place.

If I could change one thing? (well I’ve sat watching the cursor flashing for five minutes) ask me again in a year.

What is your favourite Restaurant and Why?

Rama restaurant at Marbesa is my favourite. I’ve always loved the beach chrinqutios ever since we first visited the Costa, Why? because Jose Antonio and his team really enjoy what they do and this comes across in the food that they cook and the atmosphere generated there.

What is the last film you saw at the Cinema or DVD?

Sorry I don’t watch films either at the cinema or on DVD, I can’t sit still long enough and get bored easily.

I’d rather be out talking to people.

What advice would you give to someone moving to Spain?

As with any major decision in life think it through properly, I’m afraid that it invariably comes down to money, have you got enough for your plans? also make a real attempt to learn some Spanish.

Name one other business you would recommend on the Costa Del Sol and why?

The day after I didn’t go back to the UK I went looking to sort out phones, adsl and mobiles. I found David at Computernet in La Cala 902 49 49 13

I will tell you how good he is, he managed to get Telefonica to install a land line in under 24hrs.
