Our Marbella People Interview today is with:Rob Magits

Rob Magits of Experience Box Spain

Rob Magits has been living in Marbella a few years now but has been coming to Andalucia since he was a child spending all his holidays so is fluent in Spanish and knows his way around. He launched Experience Box Spain in 2009.

How long have you lived in Spain and how long is your business established?
Rob Magits: I have been living around Marbella for 5 years now. Belgian born, I started my Spanish career as Sales Manager at Andalucia.com / Andalucia Web Solutions. In 2008, he launched Home Staging Spain (www.homestagingspain.com), the first home staging company in Andalucia.

In 2009, with a business partner, I launched Experience Box Spain SL, a company offering original experience gifts, corporate events and holiday planning services in Andalucia.

Why did you choose Marbella?
Rob Magits: Since I was a child, I have spent all my holidays in Andalucia, what explains why I know the place quite well and speak fluent Spanish. Therefore, when I decided to leave rainy Belgium, Costa del Sol was a no brainer for me.

Tell us your greatest business or personal accomplishment?
Rob Magits: My greatest personal accomplishment is probably having created and relocated such a great family: my wife Stephanie, my daughter Laura and my little boy Leo.

Why would you recommend the Costa del Sol for business and Lifestyle?
Rob Magits: I think the Costa del Sol is full of business opportunities for anyone willing to set-up a company and manage it properly, and this is very exciting. In terms of Lifestyle, no need to mention the sun, the heat, the relaxed people, the holiday atmosphere and the chiringuitos.

If you could change one thing about Spain, what would it be?
Rob Magits: Marbella, Andalucia and Spain are actually three very different things, so if I could change one thing in Andalucia it would most probably be increasing the cultural and culinary diversity. With reasons, Spanish people are proud of their country (wine is a good example) but I could do with a bigger variety of products and services offered.

At national level, I think Spain should promote much more the level of studies and degrees in the way they recruit, in order to incentivate younger people to opt for studies instead of jumping directly into the professional world. This is not possible if salary conditions depend exclusively on the position and not, or hardly, on the profile of the candidate.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Rob Magits: Epicurian, open-minded, beer lover

What is your favourite Restaurant in Marbella?
Rob Magits: Casanis

What is the last film you saw at the Cinema or DVD?
Rob Magits: Avatar

Others I liked: Trainspotting, Love Actually, Children of men, Titanic, Once, Je vais bien ne t’en fais pas, Bienvenu chez les Chtis, etc.

What advice would you give to someone moving to Spain?
Rob Magits: Don’t hesitate, it’s a great and unforgettable experience.

Name one other business you would recommend on the Costa Del Sol and why?
Rob Magits: AMMEX SLP are community administrator in Sabinillas (www.Ammex.org). As a president of my (difficult) community, Ammex is helping me really hard to get things sorted and I really appreciate their professionalism and ethics.
