David McAlmont Live in Concert in Malaga

David McAlmont, one of the most respected composers and performers in the English music scene, will be performing, with Guy Davies on piano, at the Teatro Cervantes in Malaga in their Echegaray theatre on the 9th of July from 10pm.

David McAlmont:

Compared with Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, David McAlmont  has performed for years behind other musicians and worked with top artists such as Craig Armstrong, David Arnold, Courtney Pine, Jools Holland, BBC Concert Orchestra, Cyndi Lauper, the former guitarist of Suede Bernard Butler, and Michael Nyman.

Recognised as one of the most showy frontmen of the ’90s, David McAlmont gained a reputation as one of Britain’s most underrated vocalists.

Born in Croydon in 1967, David McAlmont moved to Guyana with his mother and sister at the age of 13, and after becoming a born-again Christian, began singing at his Pentecostal church.

In 1987 he returned to Croydon, where he formed Thieves with Saul Freeman through an advertisement in Melody Maker but the pair split before they released their debut album. After supporting Morrissey on tour, McAlmont went on to release the album under his own name.

McAlmont first discovered his love for jazz in 2003, and performed at a John Coltrane tribute concert at the Barbarican. He was also a DJ at the London Jazz Festival and worked on Courtney Pine’s Devotion album.

Since then, he has provided backing vocals for several musicians, including Duffy and Sharleen Spiteri.

Tickets are priced at 15 euros. To purchase tickets over the phone, please call: +34 902 360 295 or online: www.generaltickets.com/unicaja/
