Des Sparkes runs a successful law firm in Marbella specialising in Spanish Property Law and Conveyancing. Des loves that Marbella has a wide range of activities and says that the coast is very competitive in terms of business but the lifestyle makes up for it.
How long have you lived in Spain and how long is your business established?
Des Sparkes: I have been working in Marbella now for 4 and half years.
Why did you choose Marbella?
Des Sparkes: I love the weather in the south of Spain and the Spanish character of Andalucia. As well as the fact that Marbella has a huge range of restaurants, bars, shops, marinas, golf courses etc.
Tell us your greatest business or personal accomplishment?
Des Sparkes: For myself my greatest achievement was getting my private pilot licence as to fly was always my greatest ambition (as well as being great fun).
Why would you recommend the Costa del Sol for business and Lifestyle?
Des Sparkes: I would recommend the Costa del Sol for lifestyle, but for business I would say its very competitive here and foreigners have to adjust to the slow and bureaucratic way things are done in Spain compared to the UK.
If you could change one thing about Spain, what would it be?
Des Sparkes: Improve the quality of service that the Spanish give customers and clients.

What advice would you give to someone moving to Spain?
Des Sparkes: Rent a property in the area you move to for a minimum of 6 months before you buy anything, as you will probably change your mind about exactly which area in Spain you want to live in after 6 months.
