Looking Back – An Exhibition of Art by Peruvian Artist Ursula Williams


An exhibition of art by Peruvian artist Ursula Williams is to take place at Dibleys in La Cala de Mijas, opposite St Teresa’s Church on Calle Marbella, until May 3rd.

Ursula Williams:

Peruvian born, self-taught artist, Ursula Flores, moved to the UK in 1992 and married husband Peter Williams in 1993, acquiring the British nationality and changing her name to Ursula Williams. In 2007 Ursula and Peter moved to the Andalucian region of Spain.

Although Ursula was artistically inclined all her life, it was not until she moved to Spain that she could realise her potential as a full time artist. She favours portraits in  pencil but she also paints other subjects using mostly Gouache and Tempera. Ursula has been exhibiting in Andalucia since 2008, individually and with other fellow artists and groups, and has worked on many commissions both in the UK and Spain.

Ursula Williams is a member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society (UKCPS) and also a member of the Axarquia Art group in the Axarquia, a ‘Comarca’ (small region) of Andalucia which comprises of several very picturesque white villages.

In 2009 Ursula won the ‘Best Newcomer’ award for her work ‘The Floral Shawl’ at the 7th Annual World of Coloured Pencil Exhibition and in the same year, she won a ‘Highly Commended’ award for her picture ‘My Neighbour Pepe’ at the 8th Annual Open International Exhibition.

Ursula also organises Coloured Pencil workshops in the Axarquia for those wanting to explore this medium in an area of wild natural beauty in this stunning mountain region of southern Spain.
