Marbella Book Fair 2010


Marbella Book Fair 2010 will be held from 23rd July to 15th August and after the successful completion of San Pedro Book Fair earlier this month, it is again expected to catch the attention of all students, academicians and literature enthusiasts in Costa del Sol, southern Spain.

With the presence of writers like Ana María Matute, Javier Cercas and Luis Mateo Díaz, the municipal body aims to promote literature and the habit of book reading among Marbella youth, while making the town a literary reference point.

The Marbella Book Fair will have its epicentre in the Paseo de la Alameda, with the participation of more than 22 bookstores of Marbella, Malaga, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada and Malaga, while Velez Cultural Centre and the Cortijo Miraflores Cultural Centre will host a series of literary talks.

The program will begin on Friday, 23rd July, with the opening at the Paseo de la Alameda. On Sunday, 25th July, the writer and academic Luis Mateo Diez, the winner of National Literature Prize, will give the opening speech of the fair in the Cortijo Miraflores Cultural Centre and on Tuesday 27th, Paloma Sánchez Garnica will present his book “El alma de las piedras.”

The calendar of activities will continue in the Cortijo Miraflores on Thursday 29th July with the launch of ” Pájaro en mano” by Juan Madrid and on the 30th, Virgilio Martínez Enamorado will present his work “Cuando Marbella era una tierra de alquerías.”

On 3rd August, there will be an interview with writer Ana María Matute to take her opinion on contemporary Spanish literature. The literary talks will continue later in the coming days with the author Juan Malpartida (Thursday, 5th August), Alfredo Tajan (9th August) and Javier Cercas on 10th August.

Marbella Book Fair promises to bring a sure treat for book lovers in town. So, make sure that you are there, and it’s very likely that you find many books that you are looking for.
