Marbella Dance School presents Moulin Rouge

Back by popular demand, the Marbella Dance School is presenting Moulin Rouge on October the 8th at 9:30pm at the Sonrisa Studios in Marbella.

Jazz singer, Edith Buscek, will be singing popular nostalgic French songs from the time, and with the best dancers on the coast performing in this newly revamped show, you will be taken back to an era of great choreography and exciting and colorful dance numbers performed with style and passion.

The fantastic choreography is the work of trained prima ballerina, Caterina Chisesi. Her school works frequently with Sonrisa Studios who produce great dancers and dance events on the coast on a regular basis.

A piece of History:

Built in 1885 in Montmartre, Paris, Moulin Rouge is probably the best known music and dance hall in the world. It started as a traditional cabaret and quickly became known with its colorful dance shows. Toulouse-Lautrec (the famous French artist) immortalized the Cancan dancers in his posters.

Some of the famous performers at Moulin Rouge over the years have included Yvette Guilbert, Jane Avril, Josephine Baker, Frank Sinatra and Édith Piaf.

The Moulin Rouge is famous for its ‘Can-Can’ which can be traced back as far as the Egyptians and the ‘Triori’ from South Brittany, where women danced alone and kicked their legs high above their heads and lifted their skirts up. Images of women doing this were discovered on friezes on walls.
