Marbella Reggae Festival

The Marbella Reggae Festival is taking place on August the 19th at the Playa del Pinillo in Marbella. Bands performing on the night include Poorhouse Rockers Sound System, Echo & Reverb, Briatore and showcasing Little Pepe, Zuri and Ijah.

Headlining The Marbella Reggae Festival this year is Toots and the Maytals.

Holding the current record number one hits in Jamaica (an incredible 31), The Maytals first formed in the early 1960s and quickly grew with a reputation for having strong, well-blended voices with frontman, Frederick “Toots” Hibbert soulful style, often compared to Otis Redding.

Considered legends of ska and reggae music, their sound is a unique combination of gospel, ska, soul, reggae and rock.

In 2005, the band won a Grammy award for best reggae album True Love. This album includes performances by legendary musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards, as well as popular artists today such as No Doubt, Ben Harper, The Roots, and Shaggy.

In March 2009 it was announced that Toots & the Maytals would be performing alongside Amy Winehouse at the Shepherds Bush Empire, for their shared record label, Island Records’ 50th anniversary. However, Winehouse was forced to cancel, leaving the Maytals to play at the more intimate Bush Hall, round the corner from the Empire, to a sell-out crowd.
