Founded in 1934, Skal is a professional association of travel and tourism around the world. The selection of Marbella as host city is also greatly influenced by the numerous firsthand activities carried out by the municipality in this area.

Hernandez in the meeting with members of Skal assured all support from the City Council, including logistics and transport for the upcoming conference as it is an important element to overcome seasonality. Moreover, such executive level corporate event favours hotel business and brings more touristic offer of the city.

The General Secretary of Skal, Jim Power, and the national president Jose Segui also agreed that the choice of Marbella is due “to the international and the hotel infrastructure” in the town.

The conference will also hold discussion on the “Past and Present of tourism in Marbella and the seasonality in tourism”. In addition attendees will visit the historic centre of Marbella and make trips to Ronda and Malaga. There is also a post congress tour to the city of Granada.

This apart, as explained by the organizing committee president, Alberto Fernandez, one of the key focus points of the conference is to address the issue of ecotourism. The Skal International itself works towards the quality of tourism and for this reason, support alternative forms of tourism as sports, sightseeing, conferences, conventions and sustainable development.

The entire conference agenda also includes Lecture by D. Rafael de La Fuente on “Marbella and its influence on the history of tourism in Spain”, and performance by the group “Dance and Folklore in Marbella”.
