Ronda Music Festival July 2010


Between 5th and 9th July, Ronda will hold its XI music and philosophy meeting in conjunction with the Week of Music, with conferences, workshops and concerts from representatives of a wide range of musical genres.

Malaga-born baritone Carlos Álvarez will be closing the week’s events on Friday 9th.

All the scheduled events will take place in the Biblioteca de la Real Maestranza, conferences are free of charge and concerts cost 10 euros and 5 euros for under 16s and over 65s.

Organised by the owners of the iconic bullring, Real Maestranza de Ronda (RMR), the event is a part of a series of cultural events planned to mark the 225th anniversary of the Plaza de Toros. The event starts with the music week festival.

· 07/07/10 – 20:00: The Joy of Africa – Aba Taan

· 08/07/10 – 20:00: Radio No-Man ‘s Land

· 06/07/10 – 10:00: Music as a sign representing – Tomás Marco

· 06/07/10 – 12:00: Newton ‘s third law : the principle of action and reaction in a gesture of director – Jose Antonio Sainz Alfaro

· 07/07/10 – 09:00: New heterotopias for musical performance – José Iges

· 07/07/10 – 11:00: Hofmannsthal , Richard Strauss : the metamorphosis – Francisco Jarauta

· 07/07/10 – 13:00: Rosina and her coloratura – Pilar Jurado

· 08/07/10 – 09:00: Music and representation: a weak relationship – Gotzon Arrizabalaga

· 08/07/10 – 11:00: The start of the disappointment. A moral lesson of Mozart and da Ponte – Víctor Gómez Pin

· 08/07/10 – 13:00: The aura, the mirror and shadow – José María Sánchez Verdú

· 09/07/10 – 09:00: The two models of musical semantics : language and image – Francis Wolff

· 09/07/10 – 11:00: Music and performance: the semiotics of musical representation is a function such as opera – Carlos Alvarez.

[There is no admission fee charged for any conference and all those will take place in the Library of the Royal Cavalry of Ronda.]
