Oliver Tobias:
Oliver Tobias has an impressive international career, spanning over 40 years. Born Oliver Tobias Freitag in Zurich, Switzerland on August 6, 1947, he was the son of Swiss actor Robert Freitag and German actress Maria Becker. He moved to England from the age of 8 and was sent to boarding school. Later, he was encouraged by his mother to study at the East 15 Acting School from 1965-1968.
With his rugged good looks and timeless charm, Oliver went on to become famous for his roles in films such as The Stud as well as the musicals Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar. Although theatre was his passion, he also stared in many TV series including Smuggler, Adventurer, Lukes Kingdom.
“I don’t like living in cities. I’m not into parties or the social scene; I don’t fit. I was born under Leo, and I have a touch of the sun-worshiper in me. I need to see the sun each morning and I go with it whenever I can. If I can’t see an expanse of sky over my head, I feel I’m missing out.”
“It was my ambition to be a fighter pilot. At school I played Edmund the Bastard in ‘King Lear’ as my end-of-term play, and when a career in aviation didn’t materialize, I chose acting as my work. You have to have a dedication to the profession, or you are doomed to fail.”
