Bloomsday in Marbella June 18 2010

The Irish Club Marbella is holding its inaugural ‘Bloomsday in Marbella’ event on 18th June next.

The maximum capacity for this event is 75 people and payments are to be made no later than 10th June. For those of you interested in joining us on this afternoon in June, we’d love to see you in Bloomsday hats and attire.

1st venue & 1st course at 1pm:

We will gather together at El BODEGON Café on the Paseo Marítimo in Marbella at 1pm.  There will be a designated area for our group where a glass of wine or two and good tapas (e.g. morcilla con arroz …)  will be served.  Joycean painter, Roger Cummiskey, will do our first Bloomsday reading and set us off on our merry way to the Old Town of Marbella.  Maps will be distributed, with our route highlighted, taking us from the paseo up through Avenida del Mar (where the Salvador Dali statues are) and in through the pedestrianized streets of the Old Town to our 2nd destination.

2nd venue for 2nd and 3rd courses at 2.45pm:

Be welcomed in to a 500+ yr old Andalucian establishment called Restaurante EL POZO VIEJO (The Old Well) in the Old Town, owned by Jaime Cabrerizo “an old-time bullfighter”.  Once we are all ensconced with a glass in our lámh, a second reading from Ulysses will be given.  After lunch we can look forward to hearing a Molly Bloom soliloquy being performed by Dee McMath.

Jaime’s resident guitarist will serenade us throughout the afternoon.

The 2-course “ample” meal served at El Pozo Viejo will be accompanied by ½ bottle of wine per person.

Tickets are €40 and are for sale between 10th May and 10th June.

This event can take a maximum of 75 people.

Payment can be made via PayPal (see the Bloomsday Booking Form below) and you will receive an invoice for the amount owing – or – you may purchase your ticket(s) from our Treasurer, Noeleen Mullan, with cash.  Email Noeleen at

We look forward to seeing you on 18th June in your Bloomsday hats  (just google Bloomsday for ideas about what to wear) and to having a very enjoyable afternoon.
