On Friday the 25th of February at 9pm, The Culture Centre in Nerja is presenting Flamenco artist, Antonio de la Juana. Please purchase your tickets early to avoid disappointment as this promises to be an incredible night of music, energy and Andalucian entertainment!
About Flamenco:
Although considered to be part of Spanish culture as a whole, its real origins can be traced back to Andalusia with Extremadura and Murcia as well as Latin America and Cuba contributing enormously to the development of several styles of flamenco.
Flamenco is considered a unique combination of native Arabic, Andalucian, Islamic, Sephardic, and gypsy cultures.
The Flamenco dance is called “baile,” while a flamenco dancer is known as a “bailaor” (male) or “bailaora” (female).
Flamenco dancing can be traced all the way back to the era of the Roman Empire through the writings of Pliny, Strabo and Martial who mentioned the Cadiz dancing girls and the clicking and rattling of their castanets.
Flamenco festivals are generally held in Andalusia in the summer-time with the locals often breaking into spontaneous flamenco making it probably the most purest and exciting form of flamenco that can be experienced today.
Tickets:
The box office hours are from Monday through Friday, from 12pm to 2pm. You can also purchase tickets on the day of performance, 2 hours before the start of the function. Please call first to confirm the event.
