Ouka Leele Exhibition in Benalmadena

Prestigious Artist and Photographer, Ouka Leele, will be exhibiting her work at the Centro de Exposiciones in Benalmadena until the 19th December.

About Ouka Leele:

Born in Madrid in 1957 as Bárbara Allende Gil de Biedma, Ouka Leele discovered from an early age that painting was her passion and quickly discovered her other love, photography, whilst studying fine arts at university.

In 1976 Leele went on to publish her first black and white photographs and 2 years later she started to exhibit her work. In the early 80s, she began signing her work as Ouka Leele, which is the name taken from a star map invented by El Hortelano.

In her own words, Ouka Leele understands photography as “visual poetry, a way of talking without using words.” She has taught workshops at festivals, cultural centres and universities and in 2005 her works were celebrated by being awarded the National Prize for Photography.

In the words of film director, Rafael Gordon, Ouka Leele´s photographs are considered “icons of their time. The civilizing sensibility of Bárbara Allende Gil de Biedma has been trying to associate art with reflection for more than three decades, creating an art of ideas in order to reach the ultimate expression of what it means to make art”.

Other than her many constant exhibitions, Ouka Leele has work on show in several museums and public collections in Europe including the cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Paris and Lisbon.

Ouka Leele Exhibition Info:

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Saturday 10am-2pm and 5pm-7pm. Sundays and bank holidays from 11am-1pm.
