Psychological intervention training for emergency


Marbella Town Hall through the delegation of Municipal Social Welfare (Bienestar Social) is going to host a training week of psychological intervention in disasters, catastrophes, crises and emergencies from Thursday March 25th, 2010 (17:00 to 20:00) at the centre of Trade Fair and Congress.

Organized in collaboration with the Official College of Psychologists of eastern Andalusia, it falls under the agenda of ‘Marbella 2010 Año Social’ (Marbella 2010 Year Social), the event will be attended by the Social Welfare Officer, Manuel Cardenas, the Dean of the Official College of Psychologists of eastern Andalusia, Mariano Vera, and the 1st Vice-Dean and member of the Disaster Section of the College, Francisca Ruiz.

Marbella 2010 Ano Social is a social agenda through which the Town Hall promotes joint working and more active participation of citizens, agencies and social organizations for the overall development of the municipality.

The intervention team constituting professionals as psychologists will train individuals various aspects of psychological intervention for victims and helpers after disasters. It is known that disasters can have a long term and damaging effects on survivors and also to those who are involved in disaster work.

The training period will address different kinds of psychological assistance with an aim to train people to deal with critical situations at different levels concerning:

– Emotional reactions to disasters and crisis situations
– Psychological first aid
– Skills and strategies for delivering bad news
– Stress in the intervention groups before, during and after

The Week is aimed at professionals likely to be involved in actions such as psychologists, social workers, teachers, police, health service personnel and firefighting and rescue. Through training and discussion, it will focus on new challenges of the Psychology of Emergency and the best ways to response during emergency.
