Sylvie Fleury Exhibition at CAC Malaga


The Contemporary Art Center of Málaga, in collaboration with the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, is presenting the first exhibition in Spain devoted to the Swiss artist, Sylvie Fleury until the 9th June.

The Sylvie Fleury Exhibition:

The exhibition comprises of a survey of her output over the last 20 years and will allow the visitor to see some of her most important works through which she offers an ironic vision of consumer culture and the angst that prevails in contemporary society.

The artist guides the viewer through the world of fashion, luxury and leading brand names, using the vehicle of art to criticise the superficiality of a capricious, dissatisfied world.

It brings together some of her most important works, which manifest her interest in issues relating to both the art world and contemporary society.

The exhibition is completed with a selection of 15 videos from her work in this medium, which will be projected on loop in the Centre´s Espacio 5.

Sylvie Fleury (Geneva, 1961)

In the early 90´s Sylvie Fleury became known for her Shopping Bags, which were installations using brand name bags, full of things that seemed to have been left forgotten on the floor on the gallery after a day´s shopping.

Displaying a vast range of media using sculpture, painting, photography, video, neon and installation, Sylvie Fleury has developed her own complex and disturbing idiom that introduces the viewer into the world of luxury in order to reflect on the superficiality of a capricious, dissatisfied world…
