Fiesta del Toston

Fiesta del Toston (Day of Toston) is a very traditional and religious festival which takes place November 1st over All Saints Day and has become a major part of Marbella life each year.

Friends and family get together, camping style, and roast chestnuts as well as other local specialities with plenty of drinks and overnight camping and partying until the early hours of the morning. Infact a growing number of younger people sometimes start the camping earlier, taking tents and sleeping at the site the night before making it a perfect excuse to party in the countryside!

What is All Saints Day?

In terms of Western Christian theology, All Saints Day commemorates all those who have attained the beatific vision in Heaven. It is a national holiday in most historically Catholic countries. In the Roman Catholic Church the next day, All Souls Day, specifically commemorates the departed faithful who have not yet been purified and reached heaven.

All Saints Day is a festival on which the church remembers and honours all the Christian faithful, both known and unknown. This festival has its origins in the Roman Catholic church from the Middle Ages and reflects on the lives and examples of the saints which includes both those still living on earth and those who have died in the faith and are now living in heaven. By the early Middle Ages, the liturgical calendar was filled with the commemorations of hundreds of saints and martyrs. Many of these lesser observances were combined into a joint celebration and called it All Saints Day.
